Decisions decision

You all are way to nice here - and I cannot believe I did all that ripping (normally I would have pitched it after ripping it once if I had to do it again). My patience level must be getting better. Either that or I really like the table runner.

I did get a new bale into the roundbale feeder with no major or minor mishaps. Our skidloader has 2 hand controls - you push them forward to go fast. In addition to a lead foot, I must also have lead hands - hehe. But chores were done early, the kids are on their school routine starting tonight (bedtime is 8:20), and I've had time to play.

So I worked on basting this quilt - my beloved pinwheels:

But now am having quilting issues - do I stiple it? do I try to figure out a pattern to quilt it in? wavy lines across the quilt? The only thing I know I don't want to do is straight lines - if I cannot drive in a straight line down the road, there is no way in heck I'm going to quilt in straight lines.... Guess I'll think on it for a few days - I have exactly 1 month to get it done - it's a smallish twin size, so it won't take very long to quilt once I make up my mind. I'm leaning towards some sort of pattern, but don't want to back myself into a corner with only a month to go.

Tommorrow night I'm drying herbs and starting the tiring process of canning tomato sauce and whole tomatoes. Why did I think I needed 45 tomato plants total????

5th time is a charm

One of my finishes for 5 by the end of July was this table runner:



In my mad rush to try and finish it, I got it pin basted. That next weekend I thought I would quilt it - to find out that I had some of the beige squares backwards in one of the middle rows.
So last night I decided to rip it apart to fix 3 little squares. Re-arrange them, sew them - still wrong. 3 times I did that. Then I finally get it right - sew the 2 long rows back on - I have them flipped around. Rip that apart, sew it again, start sewing, they are backwards again. After an evening of ripping, they are right and it is pin basted back together. All I have to do is quilt it and applique gold felt stars on it.


My fabric shop was closed yesterday on my way home from work - so last night I also looked again at the fabric I brought for my 30's pinwheels - on closer look- it's not too bad of a match. The green in the pinwheels is darker than I thought it was. I still didn't have enough...

But I have this yellow floral 30's print that I brought for the binding, so I used that to make a pieced back. And I will pick up a couple different 30's prints and do a pieced binding. That should fit in very well with the controlled scrappy look of this quilt.

Funny, I LOVE scrappy looking quilts when they are done - but I can never bring myself to make one without making sure all the fabrics go together. I must be obsessive compulsive about some things....

Todd is away until late tomorrow night for work - so I'm holding down the fort... which is fine - until he called me at 5:00 this morning (a 1/2 hour after he left the house) - I forgot to put a roundbale in for the cows - do you think you can do that tonight?? Um....sure....if you want to take a chance that your skidloader won't be in 1 piece when you come home....the skidloader and I have issues, you see....but he said he has faith in me that I won't roll it (or more acurately - if you wouldn't drive 10,000 mph on it, you wouldn't bounce it all over and chance rolling it - so GO SLOW!!!)

More calves...

The girls came over last night and got to walk the calves outside of the pen. These 2 are about the quietest calves we have ever had. Which is good. Emily and Kara have shown sheep for a number of years, and they told their parents last night they want to stop showing sheep and start showing cattle. hehe - more converts. While they were walking, Todd and their dad, Jason, held onto the end of the ropes - just in case - but as Todd said afterwards - he never had to help Kara with her calf - although she is tough enough that she wasn't taking any crap from her calf.

I worked on my 30's pinwheels last night - but as I was getting ready to piece the backing, realized I don't have enough. And I'm afraid it's the wrong color green (it's really a darker green than I had thought it would be). So now I'm off to the fabric shop today after work to see if I can find something else. Or I go with it and I'll piece a back with some of the yellow I had brought for the binding.

Darn....another trip to the fabric store:)

Inspiration

Jessie came home from church camp at Inspiration Hills. She had such a wonderful time. This camp is our district Church of the Brethren camp. They've been facing tough times, attendance is down, but oh she had such fun.

It's funny - we live maybe 2 miles from the camp (I left the drive at 5:40 and pulled in by the office at 5:43) - and I never knew it was back there. I'm so glad we found it. Jessie is already talking about which camps she is going to next year. I told her to save her pennies.

I'm just glad she had a good time and is ready to go back - but she was TIRED last night.

Jumping Round

I finally got some uniterrupted sewing time.....could it be because Jessie is at church camp until tonight....and Tyler is great on his own (he would be an awesome only child - hehe).


So I did this:




Yes, I have 3 more star blocks to do, but I tend to get bored very easy, and if I had to do 13 setting blocks all at once - it would never get done. So I'm doing them row by row, and it's motivating me. Todd came home to it laying all over the floor - he likes it, but wondered where I was going to put it. This will go on our bed once it is done. His response - with a king sized bed - I bet you don't get it done until Tyler graduates from high school. Does that sound like a dare to you too?

5 year old cow herds man

Tyler decided last night Daddy and I weren't moving fast enough getting these calves broke to lead - so he is taking over. The one he has hold of is super calm - already lets you walk right up to it and grab him. The one Todd has hold of is still a little wild - but this was only the 2nd time we have done anything with him. I had hold of the one that's not exactly tame, not exactly wild...

Then Tyler informed us when we were done - I'm not showing a steer -these are boring - I'm showing a BULL.

Do you think he is going to give us a number of gray hairs over the next couple years?

End of Week Fun

This week hasn't been too bad - although there is still today and tonight to get through.

I'm still catching up on sleep after working last weekend - amazing how much you can miss a weekend at home doing your own thing (or your family's thing!).

Although I did buy this cute quilt at the Peace Auction that was had at work - $7.

As Todd said - what do you need with another quilt, especially one you did not make yourself? It was for a good cause, and as the new secretary for the District, I felt like I should support the district's peace efforts at our conference last weekend.

I did get another table topper top sewn together - unfortunately, I did not make it to the 5 by the end of July. Rather 4 1/2. Oh well. And since I would rather quilt stuff than piece it, I'll get the quilting done this weekend.

The kids go back to school on the 18th - hard to believe just a little over 2 weeks to go. Actually, I cannot wait for them to go back. Maybe then my house will stay reasonably clean?
