Hi everyone!!

Hi everyone. After weeks of reading and looking for ways that people are living in these trying times, I decided to start a blog. It will be a (hopefully) fun filled chronical of my family and our daily lives as we attempt to cut out excessive consumerism and get back to what's really important - OUR FAMILY!!

To give you a little bit of background, we live on a 20 acre farm in central Ohio. We raise a small number of beef cattle for our own freezer and 4-h show steers, and just enough crops to feed them. My husband and I both work full time, we have a daughter, Jessie in 2nd grade and a son, Tyler in his 2nd year of preschool. Our pets currently include 2 paint horses, 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 rabbits, in addition to the cows. It certainly keeps us busy. This summer I had a rather large garden (weed patch?) again, with the usual assortment of vegetables along with strawberries, blackberries and blueberries.

Jessie turned 8 on Tuesday, and the family birthday party is this weekend. I made her a new quilt for her bed, as after looking and looking I couldn't find anything in our price range that we both really liked. I'll post a picture of it on here later, but needless to say, for my first bed sized quilting project, I'm pretty pleased with it. Hopefully she will like it. The one she currently has on her bed will make it's way somewhere, as after washing it a 1/2 dozen times, I realized it was dry clean only OOOPPPS!! (who would've thought a comforter for a little kid would not be washable - guess that will teach me!).

I've quilted off and on for years, but had never attempted anything bigger than a crib quilt. Alas, there are only so many table runners, wall hangings and pillows you can make.

I just finished up a quilt top, from the Kansas Troubles line, "Piecing the Trail to Kansas." It's a little bigger than the twin sized quilt I just did for Jessie, so this will be my second attempt to actually quilt one. It only took me 10 years off and on to finish the top, but it's above and I actually really like it.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!!
