But I envied one blogger with her knitting – Katie is a knitting machine folks. She turns out sweaters like most of us turn out dinner. And does it all with 3 young kids, chickens, a fabulous house and yard to maintain as well. And now she is on to quilts. Well, one of her recent posts – 13 months of sweaters – inspired me to start knitting a sweater. Me, who has never ever knit anything harder than a scarf or a washcloth.
One of the sweaters that she knit last summer, Flo, well, I fell in love with it and I started looking and found the deconstructed jacket from Lionbrand. Sounded easy – a rectangle with 2 armholes and sleeves. After a few emails to my Mom, who is also an experienced knitter (mainly to get her promise that when I get the 3 pieces done, she will sew them together for me), I ordered the yarn and dived right in.
After having to start over (after being 8 inches into it) because it was rolling incessantly and changing the pattern a tiny little bit, I think I have it figured out. We'll see how it goes when I get to the armholes:) We’ll see how I feel about this in a few days, but right now, this could be fun while I’m sitting out in the sun watching the kids play who knows what….

Just wanted to let you know - last night at my sock class I bought you a pattern for another sweater - after you get this one done. This will definitely cut down on my knitting projects for everyone if you can knit. For anyone reading this - Kris has a BD on Saturday - in case you want to wish her Happy BD! Mom
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRIS!! (Thanks Mom!) Send me your address and sometime in the next 365 days I'll send you a birthday gift! It will be a surprise!
Best of luck with the sweater. I've always wanted to knit, but I don't think its possible. I've tried twice and no go.
Started a block a month club at an area quilt store last Saturday. I'm hoping its easy and that I can keep up!
Have a great weekend!
I must admit I'm a lurker, too. It's so hard to comment everywhere I stop and read. And usually I'm trying to rush through my blog time so that makes commenting even more rare. There are specific blogs that I make sure to leave comments on as regularly as possible, the ones I relate to the most.
I'm so excited about your knitting! I'm a crocheter & a quilter but would love to knit, too. I can't wait to see your finished sweater!
It took me months to start leaving comments...actually I didn't even know you were supposed to! But congrats on the knitting...someday I'd love to learn that!
You live in a climate that making sweaters make sense. Not so much where I live. Good luck. Does look like the parts would not be too much to handle other than finding time to work on them. I am rooting for you. There are so many pretty yarns out now.
Good for you! I am a bit of a lurker too :) I read your blog, but don't always comment. I just wanted to say hi and that I bought THE SAME YARN for my first bigger than a washcloth project too :) I am making a knitted throw! I hope it goes well, keep us updated on your sweater.
I can't wait to see how it turns out! I just learned how to knit this past December and a sweater is too scary for me right now so I am going to live vicariously through your creation.:)
Happy Birthday Kris, even though it's a couple days away. I can't wait to see the sweater when it's done. I'm a lurker as well, although I do comment on the blogs I follow. Hugs
lurker, well in a way I guess. I look at many blogs daily. I quickly go through them and look at the new things and move on. I have to admit that your blog is one of the ones I look at daily. I like it. good job!
Lizzie
happy birthday to you!
yes, go for it. great pattern, you can do it, especially if your mom can help. you will love it.
thanks for the sweet post! i am blushing.
so proud of you for diving in!
Can't wait to see you finish the Flo...I've tried a couple of times with the knitting and not done so well...even with going to the yarn shop for help...better luck to you...your mom will be a big help. Definitely a lurker as well.
Hope you enjoy the knitting. I enjoy it and crochet too as it's fairly easy to watch telly at night and knit or crochet. Mind you I notice I knit faster the more exciting the programme is. Not sure if anyone else does that.
I can't seem to do cross stitch at night. I end up taking it all out the next day.
Don't forget to show us your card when you finish it.
Happy Birthday, Kris (the 20th, right?!)! Hope you've a fantastic day!!!!!
150 blogs? Oh my! I find it hard to keep up with maybe 20 or 30?! You rock!
And I am so excited that you're knitting a sweater for yourself. Awesome! I know you'll do very well as you're extremely talented in all you do. HAVE FUN!
Peace out,
Ana
I've been out of it for about a week and look at you!!! Sheesh girl, you wear me out. And now you're knitting sweaters...sigh...I need a nap...
Hi Kris, a big Happy Birthday wish for you and many, many more birthdays to come! *VBS* It's wonderful that you are diving into knitting. I think the more needle crafts we know the better. Your sweater project sounds wonderful! I'm sure you'll do fine. Have a good weekend, Hugs, Finn
How good it is to have you join the women who knit..... For me knitting is the best. Unless I am quilting...
