Well THAT backfired on me

I have issues....with toys being left all over the house. And dirty clothes not put in the laundry baskets in everyone's bedroom closets specifically for dirty clothes.

And last Thursday I had had it.

So I gathered up all the toys, the clothes, everything laying around and stacked it all up. They can't have it back until they show me they can pick up their toys. They said they needed all those toys. Oh yea? Tell me one toy that was laying on your bedroom floor.... they couldn't tell me a single one.

This is actually 2 days worth of toys (apparently they didn't take me seriously on Thursday, and we went through the same song and dance on Friday). And yes, that is Jessie's desk chair for in her room. Hey, if it is left out in the middle of the kitchen, she must not need it. And 2 loads of laundry that I picked up off their bedroom and bathroom floors.

Tonight, I tell them if they want their stuff back, they can have it back, if they put it ALL away as they take it out of the box, clothes included.

What do they BOTH do? Pick out what they want, and tell me I can get rid of the rest. They realized they don't really need it.......

What is wrong with this picture?

Guess I really am having a garage sale on Friday and Saturday of this week:)

Nothing wrong with a garage sale. I let my daughter have it over the weekend. She was nagging at her brothers about cleaning their room so it would be clean since we're trying to get ready to show the house... then I opened her door and discovered I couldn't even walk across the floor. Isn't there something about removing the log from your own eye....
Good luck with the garage sale.

When my daughter was 13 her room was a health hazaar...no word of a lie. I have her 2 weeks to clear it up or I would get a skip. I warned her repeatedly for the whole fortnight to do her room...no joy. I got a skip and the lot went in. (I selectively and secretly removed anything of huge value and hid it).
Two years of a tidy room followed. If you say it you have to do it lol.

I can just see myself 20 years ago going through the same thins with my mom. I needed it all back then.:)

Really, they are just making room for the next batch of "stuff" that they really can't live without!

Yes, this is a GOOD thing! You can actually get rid of the stuff. You didn't really want them to say they needed it and put it "away" only to be tripping over it again in a couple days, did you?

And you can use the money you get to buy fabric!

Oh, Kris! Those children of yours are just too bright. It could get harder and harder to get things past them now. Hang tight for the ride! Hey, and that they realized they didn't need all of it? Maybe there's a lesson for them in all of this after all. :)

Happy garage saling to you!

Yeah, I always hate it when I try to make a point and my family just moves along with their lives and misses my point completely! Maybe you could just make them do certain extra chores to get the stuff back, and if they don't want it, then they can deal with selling it. You could set a timer and say they have to finish before the timer goes off, then if they aren't finished by the deadline then waaa-laaa! They get another chore that has to be finished in even less time!

Just a suggestion...

I see getting rid of stuff as a good thing. Now there will be less to clutter the house. Maybe it will stay cleaner. Yeah right. Kids will be kids.

My mother's sister kept a bag in her pantry. Into that bag went whatever was left out of place. Her children were allowed to recover what was in the bag but only had a week to do so. On trash day, that bag went into the trash. One week it was her son's new winter coat. He was required to find a job and earn the money to replace it.

Now this week you are decluttering and getting a few dollars. Good trade.
