Freezer space....

THANK YOU everyone for your fantastic ideas. Tyler and I are going to the library after work tomorrow, you all have given me some great snack ideas for the kids, and I started right in yesterday afternoon organizing our biggest freezer - where we store all our meat:

And after cleaning it out, I goofed - BIG TIME. We are now down to 1 pound of ground beef - which is a staple in our house. And our steer won't be going to the butcher until probably May. Ooops - guess I'll have to call them and order some....or we will have to suck it up and not eat so much ground beef.

And next I'm going to tackle this freezer:

And this refrigerator freezer:

I am just anal enough that I actually then got on Excel on our desktop computer and did a spreadsheet with what is in the freezer and how much we have (right down to the 3 half gallon containers of colostrum for calves if it's ever needed). I'd show you a picture of it, but yesterday we lost power here for a couple hours, and my wireless router to that computer is now fried:(

The one thing I was REALLY hoping to find was a whole chicken that I could bake (I really thought I had one) but didn't find a single one. Guess when I go to the butcher to get some more ground beef - I'll see if he has a couple......

That's been bout it here. We've been enjoying mildly warmer weather here (40 ish) which feels wonderful after the incredible cold. Of course, with the warm comes mud. Have a great evening!

Wonderful ideas! I always keep a list of what is in my freezer and my pantry. Makes my grocery shopping and meal planning alot easier and cheaper!

OK, so I thought I was the only one that anal. LOL Great job on the freezers!

A tip for future colostrum storage -- pour into Glad containers (6-8 oz), freeze and then pop out the "patties", store in gallon freezer bags. OR, fill Aquafina bottles 3/4 full, mark with the date and freeze. You can sell any extras you might have (before they go bad). :)

Good for you to get that organized.
My problem is updating my list when I use something. Good luck!!
You are for sure on the right track. I like how you organized your freezer.

You did get some awesome suggestions from your blogging friends. That's a sweet feeling, isn't it!

Looks like you've some good staples on hand in your freezer and what perfect timing to organize so you can now plan for chicken & ground beef.

Enjoy the library! I love the library! And let us know what you find of interest to you!

Happy Friday!

Ana :)

Isn't it a great feeling to know what's in that freezer (even if it wasn't quite what you thought). We discovered an entire turkey that I didn't remember I had. I probably need to think about cooking that sometime soon before the weather warms up too much more.
Have fun at the library. I've found some awesome recipes there.

I love how organizing can make your life just feel more clean and uncluttered and now you know what you have! If you find great tips at the library, please share them with us!

Wow, your freezers look so organized! I need to re-organize my freezer and make a list. Recently I came across several packages of hamburger meat that needed cooking so we are eating a lot of that right now.

I have a friend who has a spread sheet and keeps track of everything that goes in and out of her freezer. I learned about it last week, and was going to do an inventory on our freezer this weekend. I think it is a great idea.

Have a great week.
