...but I like it.
I chickened out on making a coat similar to this one. Funny, how I can read and comprehend the most complex quilt block pattern, but any sort of clothing and my mind freezes. Total. loss. of. comprehension. And forget about altering a pattern - it won't happen in my sewing room right now.
I had the pattern for this coat (which should be big enough to fit my tiny niece), so away I went:
Thanks to the generous fabric donation from Kristie (thanks so much for the quilt pattern and fabric!!) and some bright pink fleece from my stash, Avery will have a reversible coat to wear this fall, and hopefully next spring as well.
I still have to finish the edges, but I'm thinking binding it like I would a quilt (maybe green and white checked ginham - any suggestions???). Not sure how I'm going to do the closures on it. But I'll have to wait to finish it until she tries it on tomorrow night when I see her. If it's too big - I can cut it down, too small....well......
1 birthday present down (sort of), 2 more to go for the month of October! and 1 to make for November....
Stay tuned....
Kris

wow...i miss a week and you've had more adventure in your life than you should have. jessie, breaking another bone. oh my kris, she's had quite the year and she's up and going again. good for you tackling a coat...pillows are about my speed, maybe an apron. take care and tell jessie hope she's feeling better!
Hi Kris,
Wow, you did a GREAT job on the coat!
Hope you have a great day!
Blessins',Lib
gorgeous! love the fabric.
The jacket is adorable! I love that it is reversible & has the warm, soft fleece inside. Keep sewing & doing your own thing!
P.S., I loved your entries about the fair, down to the Kiddie Tractor Pull. And if I tell my husband about the combine derby, he'll be so jealous!
My birthday is November...
I am the same way. I can make a quilt, but when it comes to clothes I freeze up. I think a cute green would look adorable.
This is such a cute coat!
I used to make clothes for myself and my daughter and I kind of quit doing it because buying the clothes at the stores is much cheaper than buying the fabric and it is hard to find the fabrics for my taste around here.
You might complete your project before you know it!! (lol)
I am right there, with you, on the clothing-sewing-impairment. But you did a GREAT job on the coat!
Give Jessie a left handed high five from all of us at blog-land. she is such a trooper!
i love this coat! perfect. I can not read patterns very well at all. even the easy ones! so sweet. doesn't it feel good to get a few things checked off the list?
