Lettuce Gone Wild

I think my lettuce needs some help.

I went downstairs to the basement to check on my seeds - and overnight (or so it seems) all of the lettuce went wild. Really wild. Which is a good (?) thing as we would eat salads 7 days a week here (grilled chicken, steak, tacco, garden - you name it, my kids will eat it).

So I got out some pots and transplanted them. They all had 2 leaves on each stem but they were SO leggy. I had put like 7 or 8 seeds per peat pellet (the seeds were several years old) and I think every single seed germinated. So hopefully they will grow some more and sturdy up. Eventually I will thin them out, but for now they will survive. I did thin the head lettuce out to 1 head per pot - it's the leaf lettuce and romaine that went wild here.

Of course, now I am running out of room under my grow light with the bigger pots, so I am going to keep a close eye on them to make sure all are ok. If not, I'll break down and buy another grow light, but it's only a few more weeks until they can go out in the garden.

zillion tomatoes (okay, 45 sauce plants)

The good news is my peppers are starting to sprout. I brought them back upstairs - we close the heat vents in our basement, and I think it was a little too cold for them:(

It's 76 and sunny here - I'm off to make chicken parmesan for dinner.

You are such a pro! I wish my brain knew at least half of what you know about gardening. Wow. I'm already intimidated by our garden.

I'm glad the weather is great!
